Silk Chiffon Hankie with Fabulous Needle lace from Greece

The lady who sold me this was trying to liquidate her late motherís estate.  She handed it to me wrapped in tissue paper and tucked away in a small box.  I asked her where her mother had gotten it and she didnít know.  I thought a minute and said the lace was very similar to the lace on a scarf that was given to me back in my college days by a Turkish girl who was studying here.  The lady thought a minute and said her parents had lived in Greece for about a year while her dad set up an agricultural division at a college there.  The two countries are so close that this has to be where this gorgeous hankie came from.  The center portion is silk chiffon.  The ingenious lace surrounding it on all sides is about 1.75Ē wide.  It measures about 11.75Ē x 10.5Ē.  I am selling this ďas foundĒ because I donít want to risk harming the silk center.  There is some slight staining on one edge but it shows no wear whatsoever.  It has no odor other than a faint powdery smell.  Itís probably common to find these in the Middle East but itís extremely rare to find one that found its way here.

Selling ďas foundĒ.  Excellent condition.   c. unknown
