Pretty antique linen hand embroidered skirt

Pretty antique linen hand embroidered skirt
This pretty linen skirt is made of a fine linen fabric and embellished above the hem on both the front and back with a hand embroidered floral design. The scalloped hem was hand embroidered with a buttonhole stitch and a pretty embroidered net lace just barely peeks out from below. There were gussets added on each side to give it an extra flair, making it more suitable for dancing. Because it was never finished (no button or buttonhole at the waist to close), it’s pretty safe to say it was never worn. It did have an area of damage near the side hem in the gusset where it was obviously closed in a drawer or the lid of a trunk or cedar chest. The repairs I made to the linen are pictured. The repair to the net lace underneath is hidden behind the ruffle and will never show. I also made another very small repair in the back near the side seam. It is BRIGHT white and incredibly strong despite it being about 100 years old. It could safely be worn.

The measurements are as follows:
Waist: 27”
Length 36”
Skirt circumference: 80”

It has been carefully restored by hand cleaning, air drying and pressing with light starch. This one has a simplistic beauty about it that runs circles around some of its fancier counterparts.

I thank you for looking and, as always, if you have any questions or need additional pictures, just ask! I’ll be more than happy to oblige.
