Tinted Victorian Portrait Pin of Child – Mourning Button

This Victorian Button measures just over 1” wide and portrays a captivating little girl in an enormous hat.  It is made of celluloid and edged with a brass twisted rope design.  Because I didn’t know much about it, I ran it past one of my auctions buddies “Larry”.  He looked it over and said it was probably one of the nicest he’s ever seen.  First, it’s a child (and a good looking one at that).  Second, she’s tinted (which I guess is rare on these) and thirdly, the condition is very good.  It does show a tiny bit of wear but the pin on the back is still intact and there is minimal scratching.  I had always called these mourning pins and thought they were worn to remember a loved one who had passed away.  Larry said yes, sometimes that was the case but not always.  In this case I’d like to think this little sweetie was just very much loved by a family member.  Larry tells me it’s worth 80 bucks so 80 bucks it shall be.
