Set of 8 Vintage hand embroidered Luncheon Placemats These pretty placemats were made for a scant few years after WWII. I often run into bits and pieces of various table linens made in this style but never a full set of eight and rarely this detailed. These have the typical boldly colored hand embroidery in the center but have an added wide pulled work border. Even more interesting is the elaborate hem work, obviously copied from the Italians and the first I’ve ever come across. They measure 14.25” x 8.75” and are made from a light oatmeal colored linen. Each and every one is in perfect condition. They have been carefully hand cleaned, air dried and pressed with light starch. There are NO stains, NO yellowing and NO holes or weak spots. When I speak to Women’s groups I always take a piece or two of this style of work with me. The bright colors and beautiful workmanship never fail to enthrall the crowd.
