Antique Hand Crocheted Bodice for Corset Cover - Oh la la!

Antique Hand Crocheted Bodice for Corset Cover - Oh la la!

This is hand crocheted bodice was once the yoke to a corset cover.  Hand crocheted with tiny linen thread in a Venetian style, it features intricate daisies and capped sleeves.   I rarely buy these (in fact, I think this is the first one I've ever offered for sale) as they are a dime a dozen, generally in poor shape and few know what to do with them.  For this one I make the exception. First, it's in a size you can actually wear.  See the pics for the exact measurements but I believe it would classify in todays times as a size 12-14.  Second, it's made with linen thread so despite its age of 100 years or better, it is still perfect and will probably still be perfect in another 100 years from now.  Third, it's gorgeous!  Simple to finish by making a tube of fabric, hemming one edge and sewing the raw edge onto the bodice (gathered in the front for the bust) with a simple whip stitch... oh, promise me you won't use a machine.  Around the neck you'll need to weave in a satin ribbon which ties into a little bow in the front.  What was there when it came to me was a shoe lace, which I took the liberty of removing because I'm sure we can do better.  It can be used as either a blouse or sun dress - you decide!  Both would be equally fabulous!  Equally nice for the antique costumer.

Hand laundered, air dried and pressed. Excellent condition    c. 1900's
