Oh heavens, where to even start. This absolute knockout is made with perfect hand embroidery and a technique called “shadow work” where an additional fabric is added to the back and shows through darker than the rest of the piece. The Grape and Chrysanthemum pattern is pure Marghab but on this particular piece it was… um… “borrowed” by some Asian linen house and made for export to the United States. That could be viewed as either good or bad. The bad thing is simply that it isn’t a Marghab. The good thing is, if it was a Marghab you couldn’t afford it. Trust me on this. You couldn’t. It measures 43” x 16”, is bright white and lays perfectly flat. The only flaw is an opaque dot (pictured) – probably a drip of starch from when I ironed it. A stunner and sure to become one of your most prized pieces.
Hand Cleaned, air dried and pressed. Excellent condition. c. 1940-60
