This is one of two dresses I am selling which were both worn by the same woman when she was a little girl. As she was born in 1899 and this would fit a 3 or 4 year old, this dress would have to date to 1902 or 03. Oddly, there are very few dresses out there in this size that were saved so I was excited to run across this one. Made from very light cotton, the bodice is studded with intricate patterns of Irish crochet. For the skirt she used a wide, floral Schiffli lace with a fancy edge. The Waist is finished by hand with a tiny buttonhole stitch and made to have a ribbon or sash woven through the slits and tied in the back. Because I didn’t have any on hand (and I didn’t want to leave it bare for the pictures), I used a pink wedding tulle which is actually adorable so I’ll leave it. Replace it if you wish. The dropped waist makes it difficult to get measurements but the ones I managed to get are as follows:
Under arm to underarm: 18” Shoulder to waist: 27” Shoulder to top of waistband: 14” Top of waistband to hem: 13” Skirt circumference: approx 76”
Flaws? None!!! It cleaned up to bright white with no stains, holes or weak spots whatsoever. Strong enough to wear or a wonderful piece for a collector. To see the other dress this lucky young lady wore click here.
Hand cleaned, air dried and pressed. Excellent condition. c. 1902-03
