This fabulous little darlin’ is European in origin and hails from the early part of the century. Called “tape lace”, it stands out from other laces of its type because the tapes are completely handmade. The “fill” is a graceful and intricate baroque leaf design. This was made with a teeny tiny linen thread (slightly larger than a hair) and amazingly only one of the tiny threads is broken (pictured). The liner was completely shot but there was enough there to use as a pattern so I made an exact duplicate. The original bows (long gone) were probably much bigger than the ones I added but I just couldn’t bear to cover up too much of the lace. It measures 12" around the face and 14" around the bottom. It is in excellent condition as described.
