Antique Linen towel with tiny handmade sol lace - Edwardian elegance

Antique Linen towel with tiny handmade sol lace - Edwardian elegance

An absolutely beautiful hand towel embellished with fancywork on both ends.  It was done in a technique most commonly called sol lace (sol meaning Latin for “sun”).  If you look at closely each pattern they all radiate out from the center.  I have stared at this piece a hundred times and am still awed by the intricacy and skill it took to make it.  Made from a medium weight linen, it measures 21.75” x 18.5”.  Unused and perfect.  Oh, so elegant and perfect for the finest of homes.

c.1900 or earlier   Freshly laundered.  Excellent condition
