Very Old Sol Lace Centerpiece with Whimsical Butterfly

I was teasing a friend who was admiring this that, if she didn't learn to do this type of work, she'd never find a decent fellow as every prospective mother-in-law would expect to find this kind of work in her trousseau.  Although I was teasing her, there was a time when it was the truth.  This beautiful centerpiece is edged with "Sol" lace (think Latin for Solar) as it is made up of circles joined together to make a whole.  The center is a very fine (almost sheer) linen with a whimsical butterfly embroidered in the center.  There is a small hole near the edge but as it's over 100 years old, we'll let that slide as I have more holes than that despite the fact that I'm only half that age.  It measures 22" square with no other flaws noted.  Frilly and fabulous!

Hand washed, air dried and pressed.  Very Good condition as described.  c. 1900
