Antique Utility Doilie with Turtle Lace

Believe it or not, this beauty was a simple “everyday” doilie with just enough frill to be pretty but not considered much of a loss if it got damaged or worn and had to be replaced. It was made with a simple linen center and edged with crochet worked onto “turtle braid”; a notion available in every mercantile store. Because turtle braid disappeared around 1910, we can date it to then or before. It measures 16.5” and is bright white and in perfect condition.

Hand washed, air dried and pressed.   Excellent condition. c. pre-1910
