#CD091641C Classic Madeira Embroidered Centerpiece with Bridal Baskets

If you looked up "Madeira embroidery" in the encyclopedia, you'd likely find a picture showing a piece very similar to this one.  Madeira is an island off the coast of Portugal and their linens were the benchmark for all other linen distributers of the era.  This one is oval and measures  17.5" x 12" and is hand embroidered in one of their most popular patterns, the bridal basket.  When I started this endeavor over 10 years ago, I could find these at nearly every auction I went to.  Now, the they're as scarce as hens teeth!

Hand Cleaned, air dried and pressed.  c. 1900-50
