Antique Irish Crocheted Reticule Oh my!!

This gorgeous purse (or “reticule” as is would have been called back in the day) is hand crocheted with a tiny linen thread in various patterns all typical of the clothing and accessories shipped from Ireland during the Irish Potato famine.  The American women’s magazines of the day also printed articles on how to make simpler versions but when you run across the real deal, you just know it in an instant.  It measures 11” x 6.75”.  The original pink lining was so old that it turned to powder when I touched it so I replaced it.  All the baubles are there and sturdy.  There are no holes, yellowing or stains whatsoever.  One of the nicest you’ll ever find!

Hand washed, air dried and pressed.  Excellent condition   c.  Mid-1800’s - 1910
