Antique Linen Glove Case with Perfect Hand Embroidery

This beautiful glove case (sometimes called a glove envelope) is either Victorian or early Edwardian.  It was made on good Irish linen and hand embroidered in a leaf design.  The flap is edged with double scallops and finished with a fine buttonhole stitch.  I don’t know if it was ever used or not but I’m certain it had never been laundered (just how I like to buy them!).  Its first bath was at my house and it came out looking as perfect as the day it was made.  Despite the name, they were also used to hold letters, locks of hair or other mementos as they were a great way to keep small articles together.  It measures 10.25” x 4.75” closed.  Enclose a small gift (as if the case wasn’t enough!) and give it to a special friend.  They’ll be enthralled!

Hand washed, air dried and pressed.  Excellent condition   c. 1870 - 1920
