Antimacassar sets

Antimacassar gets its name chiefly from a port in Indonesia.  During Victorian times the port of Makkasar was famous for exporting oils (mostly palm and coconut) which were used to make a hair pomade for men.   It was quickly discovered that the pomade had a tendency to transfer from a gentleman’s hair to the back of the upholstered furniture he was sitting on.  Thus, the anti macassar was developed to protect the furniture.
